The value of an old street at night lies in making people slow down and walk it — massing, brightness and colour temperature all give way to strolling; after the upgrade, Xinglong Old Street was listed as a national-level tourism and leisure district.

Xinglong Old Street is a key part of the Xuan'en riverfront night-tour system; its night-time vitality had to be raised while preserving the historic fabric.
